Interview with Holiday Rep

The following is an interview between Happy Holiday Rep's M.D. Michelle Sutherland and a holiday rep.

M: Why did you want to become a holiday rep?

K: Its something I have always wanted to do and I love the sun.

M: Where did you find a job as a holiday rep?

K: Thomas Cook website.

M: How difficult/easy was it to find a job as a holiday rep?

K: Easy enough. You just go on the website and it guides you through the process.

M: What qualifications did you need to get a job as a holiday rep?

K: Experience working with children (as i am a children's rep) and NVC 3 if you want to work in the creche, which i have. Apart from that, no experience is required. Its all about how confident you are in the interview and if your a peoples person.

M: In your opinion, what are the main responsibilities of a holiday rep?

K: Making sure the guests are happy and their needs are being met, especially the children.

M: What was the recruitment process that was used my the tour operator? (ie telephone interview, one to one interview, assessment center, on line tests etc.)

K: On line application first of all. I was then called for a group interview and then an individual interview. The interviews were based on you as a person, whether you're confident and enjoy working in a team.

M: Have you heard about on line or colleges courses that help you get a job as a holiday rep?

K: Not really. I did 2 years in travel and tourism, but no courses are necessary.

M: If yes, do you think that these courses are worthwhile or not?

K: I really enjoyed the course and felt it helped.

M: If you could give any advice to someone that wants to become a holiday rep, what would it be?

K: Take lots of money with you and be willing to work long hours. Its a brilliant experience. Also, at the interview the tour operator asked me how I would be able to cope with working long hours and being away from home for so long? They also asked to give an example of when I showed an initiative and customer service. Therefore, try and prepare answers for these type of questions!

M: Overall, did you enjoy your job as a holiday rep and would you recommend it? Why?

K: I really enjoyed it, its a once and a life time opportunity. Would definitely encourage anyone interested in doing it to go for it.
